When constitutional questions arise in the news, or someone cites a specific amendment, i take a minute to find and read the actual text of the U.S. Constitution. The relevant section isn’t very long; many of the amendments and some articles are just a few sentences. And it is written in English. Reading those paragraphs helps clarify the legal matter in my mind. It also shows me what our countrymen had on their minds 1787.

By the time this funky old furnace finally dies for the final time, in keeping it going all these years i will have gradually taught myself everything about its care and maintenance. At which point, i’ll replace it with completely different technology that i barely understand.

If you’ve lost count of all the people you know diagnosed with a certain condition, i don’t believe they have a “disorder”; statistically, they fall within the normal range of human behaviors.

The more you understand yourself, the better your life can be — especially when you recognize that your natural disposition is advantageous in some circumstances, but unhelpful in others.
